New! Body Balance Class at Davis Senior Center

Body Balance improves balance and coordination primarily by strengthening relevant muscles in the legs, abdominal core, back, and shoulders. In this class, Tina uses a multifaceted approach to provide a gentle but comprehensive workout that achieves this goal. Ongoing participation will increase students’ proprioception, stability, and control over their body positions and movements. This class is ideal for anyone wanting to improve their balance ability, especially seniors. Check the Schedule page or contact Tina for more information.

Each class begins with a 5-to-10-minute warm-up involving low-impact movements and light stretching to loosen the muscles and slightly increase the heart rate. During the main workout, students engage in a series of slow, natural movements and static postures carefully designed to strengthen the muscles involved in balance. The series varies from class to class, but individual postures and movements are drawn from other fitness disciplines, including yoga, Pilates, martial arts, and various dance styles. Accompanying music and abdominal breathing exercises coordinated with the movements will provide an opportunity to practice rhythm and focus.
